Growth Energy Statement on Tax Package Vote in House

Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis issued the following statement after the House passed the tax package, which includes extensions for the ethanol tax incentives, by a vote of 277 to 148. The bill will now be sent to the President for signature.

“This vote today, which includes an extension of ethanol tax policy, will provide certainty in the market and give us a chance to work with Congress and the Administration to enact longer term tax policy reforms that will level the playing field in the fuels market. The infrastructure build out proposed in our Fueling Freedom proposal will help open the market to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, improve our environment, create U.S. jobs that can’t be outsourced and strengthen our national security.”

Propel Fuels gives free filling station samples

Sacramento-based Propel Fuels, an alternative fuels retailer and an operator/supplier of alternative fuel pumps at self-serve filling stations, is offering five gallons of free alternative fuel through Friday at its newest site in Citrus Heights.The Propel pump is in the Shell station at 7901 Madison Ave. (on Madison at Sunrise Boulevard).

USDA joins effort to increase FFV awareness

Surveys show that as many as 75 percent of flex-fuel vehicle (FFV) owners don’t know they can fill their vehicles with E85. Now, a new public awareness campaign will aim to change that. “Breaking through the blend wall begins with the 8 million FFVs on the road today, and reaching these drivers to make sure they know they can use ethanol blends up to 85 percent,” said Dallas Tonsager, USDA under secretary for rural development. FFVs can use E15 or ethanol blends up to E85, allowing consumers to take advantage of lower prices when available, he added.

Alternative Fuel Vehicles In Ocala FL

Let’s talk about alternative fuel vehicles. In their quest to reduce the use of fossil fuels and harmful exhaust emissions to our Ocala environment, automakers will have a number of alternatives for us very soon.

For instance, Flex Fuel vehicles are already available in the Citra area. Flex Fuel vehicles can run on gasoline or on E85 fuel. E85 is a mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. The ethanol is made from corn.

Corn growers push for tax credits to expand ethanol industry

Want to see more ethanol blends at the pump? Well, the American Corn Growers Foundation has a plan and they’re challenging Congress to help the industry by redirecting more than $15 billion in Foreign Tax Credit.

Earlier this year, South Dakota passed an Ethanol Blender Pump Incentive Grant Program – a program that reimbursed fueling stations up to $10,000 per pump to install alternative fueling infrastructure.

National Ag Day Essay Contest Announces February 4 Deadline

The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) calls on ninth- to 12th-grade students to submit an original, 450-word essay or a two-minute video essay about the importance of agriculture. This year’s theme is “American Agriculture: Your Food. Your Farmer.” and the deadline is Feb. 4, 2011. The ACA asks teachers and parents to encourage student participation.

The theme - “American Agriculture: Your Food. Your Farmer.” - presents an opportunity for students to address how the agriculture industry continues to feed a growing population. Entrants may choose to either write an essay or create a video that acknowledges the many ways today’s growers are providing a safe, stable food supply and sustaining the significant role agriculture plays in everyday life.

Soaring gas prices boost E85 use

Vehicle owners are paying attention to the little signs inside their fuel-filler covers.

Flex-fuel cars, trucks, vans and SUVs give their owners an option other than paying as much as $2.50-$3 per gallon for gas. Flex-fuel vehicles (FFV) are designed to run on any blend of ethanol and gasoline, up to 85 percent ethanol. With the price of E85 up to 60-70 cents lower than E10, Minnesota consumers have eagerly experimented with the new fuel.
