Loss of stimulus aid hurts ethanol pump plan
A San Diego alternative fuels company is scrambling after ethanol politics sideswiped its efforts at securing millions in stimulus funds.
Pearson Fuels, based in City Heights, was behind an application for $11 million from the federal and state governments to subsidize construction of 55 ethanol pumps across California, including two in San Diego County.

Ethanol Poised to Create Jobs in Expanded RFS
Growth Energy issued the following statement after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released its final regulation on an expanded Renewable Fuels Standard:
“Growth Energy commends President Obama for recognizing the value of domestic ethanol both as a low-carbon fuel and as a U.S. jobs creator. The expanded Renewable Fuels Standard released today rightly puts an emphasis on America’s growth energy – ethanol – and that in turn will help our economic recovery, strengthen our national security and clean our skies,” Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy, said.

Offering drivers in the Kansas City area more choices at the pump, Temp Stop in Lee’s Summit is now the second fueling station in Missouri to install ethanol blender pumps. “The new pumps installed last week offer three blends of ethanol as well as two grades of conventional gasoline.

Missouri Alt Fuel Tax Credit Now Defined
Missouri’s alternative fuel infrastructure tax credit is now defined easily in a website sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Retailers can take advantage of this credit in the taxable years between Jan. 1, 2009 and Jan. 1, 2012.

Shell and Cosan have signed an agreement to form a $12 billion joint venture that could be an alternative fuel major in the future. The joint venture, with assets from both companies, will be focused on the production of ethanol, sugar and power, and the supply, distribution and retail of transportation fuels.

1,800 Mile Ethanol Pipeline Plan Unveiled
Plans were disclosed for an 1,800-mile long pipeline, running across Indiana and north of Indianapolis, to carry ethanol made in the Midwest to new markets for the fuel in the eastern United States.

North Carolina Calls for Ethanol Infrastructure Projects for Funding
The North Carolina Solar Center at NC State University has announced a call for projects for $700,000 to award to governments, business, and/or non-profit fleet and fuel providers for transportation related emission reduction projects. The Clean Fuel Advanced Technology (CFAT) Project is a one million dollar initiative of the NC Solar Center (NCSC) funded in part by federal dollars from the NC Department of Transportation (DOT). In addition to providing assistance for emission reduction projects such as purchasing alternative fuel vehicles, installing refueling infrastructure for cleaner burning alternative fuels, retrofits on older diesel vehicles and idle reduction technology, the CFAT project focuses on education and outreach to the twenty-four NC counties that do not meet national ambient air quality standards. Project proposals must be submitted to the NC Solar Center by March 15, 2010.

Blendstar to Launch Biofuel Transload Terminal in Louisiana
Blendstar, LLC proudly announces the launch of a biofuel transload terminal to distribute ethanol and biodiesel in Bossier City, Louisiana, a suburb of Shreveport. The facility is expected to open in late January with capacity to serve the local market as well as future growth related to increased demand as a result of higher blends of biofuels in the U.S. fuel supply. Fuel distributors in Northern Louisiana, Southern Arkansas and Eastern Texas will be able to obtain high-quality ethanol and biodiesel at the terminal, located on 4800 Viking Drive, Bossier City, LA.
